This puppet is from an unaired 1980 Smurfs television pilot entitled "Smurfwork!," predating the animated series. All of the characters, with the exception of Gargamel, were puppets built and performed by employees of "Great Jones Studio," the NY puppet shop run by Kermit Love, co-designer and builder of Big Bird and Snuffleupagus, among many others. These puppets were sold at Love's estate sale auction in 2012. These puppets are in good condition for their age, with their original foam interiors intact. To my knowledge, they were only used one. This puppet can be seen in that pilot blowing bubbles, and retains a tube in his mouth for that effect. A monofil rig controls allow the nose to wiggle left to right or up and down.This puppet has velcro to attach feet, poseable hands for holding, one spinner pupil to bounce and give motion while operated, and a knit hat. This puppet is in remarkable condition for its 43 year age, and an exquisite example of character sculpting. Measuring 22"x14"x10", the puppet is in very good production-used condition.
